And so the lion fell in love with the lamb…
Today, I want to briefly discuss the novel that introduced me to the world of Young Adult Literature: Twilight.
I read this back when I was merely 14 years old (Ugh. I feel so old right now. Huhu). Looking back, I was quite obsessed with this coming of age story about a pathetically helpless girl falling in love with a heartbreakingly handsome vampire. I really was, so much so that I read it at least THREE times.
Like many neophyte bookworms, I was enthralled by Bella and Edward’s paranormal romance, which basically took a long time to progress because of the former’s weakness and the latter’s messianic complex. Yes, these characters have significant flaws or imperfections that get under the skin of many readers today. However, I must admit that Bella and Edward still hold a special place in my mental shelf of favorite characters. I know it might sound corny, but I particularly like them because of their unconditional love and devotion for each other in the face of adversity (as minor as it was).
In the end, even though I have been already exposed to a lot of literature with more depth or substance, I honestly do not regret my fondness for the novel/saga. After all, Twilight was the first YA novel I bought and read, so it is somehow responsible for my current insatiable hunger for books.
ME TOO!!! Twilight was my intro into YA and I still adore the story today:)
